Angelos Merges

Angelos Merges work often refer to cultural clichés, posing questions that concern modern western binds referring to liberal concepts.

Due to his interest in concealed aspects of modern man, he deal with issues such as herd mentality, the gap between initiation and proselytism and the etiquette beneath today’s political movements.

His practice starts by gathering digital images from various sources. Snapshots from amateur videos, stills from the News and worldwide documentaries are the most common material. By observing praxes from different cultures, he focus on the relation between reason and instinct, in an attempt to distinguish the intertemporal qualities of the human psyche. The context is either enigmatic or reminds us of a collective action or of archetypal rituals.
